With over two decades of experience in Civil, Structural, and Earthquake Engineering, including over 10 years as President and founding Principal at Brandow & Nastar Inc., Dr. Navid Nastar has established himself as a leader in the field of Structural and Forensic Engineering. Dr. Nastar holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Civil Engineering - Earthquake Engineering. He received his second M.S. in Civil Engineering - Structural Engineering and his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering - Structural and Earthquake Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC).

Dr. Nastar has extensive experience in forensic engineering and failure investigation involving various types of buildings and other structures. He has successfully investigated a wide variety of property loss, construction defect, and professional liability claims, and he routinely provides expert witness and litigation support consulting services for insurance and legal matters. Dr. Nastar has been involved in some of the largest and most high-profile insurance and legal matters in recent years. He provides his expert witness and forensic engineering consulting services to clients throughout the United States and internationally.

In addition to his consulting practice, Dr. Nastar is a an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at USC, where he teaches structural engineering/design courses and serves as Faculty Advisor for the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) - Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) student chapter at USC. Dr. Nastar’s experience as an educator allows him to be an effective communicator with excellent presentation skills, enabling him to explain complex technical concepts in plain English.

Dr. Nastar specializes in structural engineering and design, earthquake engineering, forensic engineering, and failure investigation. As a practicing licensed Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) and Structural Engineer (S.E.) in multiple states including California, Dr. Nastar has extensive background in structural and earthquake engineering including design and construction of various types of structures such as concrete, steel, wood, and masonry buildings, as well as structural evaluations and repair/retrofit of existing buildings.

Dr. Nastar has been elected Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a prestigious honor held by only 3% of ASCE members. He is the past Chair and a long-time member of the ASCE Forensic Engineering Division. He is also a member and past Chair of the Education Committee of the ASCE Forensic Engineering Division. Dr. Nastar has served as Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities and on the Editorial Board of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) of the UK, Forensic Engineering Journal. In addition to ASCE, Dr. Nastar is a member of other professional organizations including American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC), Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), and Seismological Society of America (SSA).
